If you are interested in becoming a ‘Friend of Savoy’, please read on…

Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group (Savoy) was established in 1962 with the principal aim of promoting the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. This tradition has been passed down from generation to generation of students, and today Savoy produces a substantial number of outstanding quality shows. As well as performing at least one D’Oyly Carte opera each year, the society has successfully expanded its repertoire to include a broad range within the musical spectrum, but maintaining its core values. The society facilitates not only an outlet for performing talent within Edinburgh but nurtures innumerable other skills.

Whilst performance is the key to the society’s success, the Savoy community is just as active off stage as it is on. Numerous social events, including concerts, ceilidhs, and the annual ball, provide the friendly and welcoming atmosphere for which the society is best known.

In order to uphold the excellent production values that have become synonymous with Savoy, the society spends a large amount on each production. Whilst ticket sales usually cover this outlay, the society still has to pay for its administrative and running costs. However, the costs involved in producing shows are increasing and Savoy strives to keep its ticket prices as low as possible. As with many other student societies, Savoy relies on the financial support received through sponsorship.

As many of you will know through experience, Savoy not only develops talent in a friendly environment, but above all is an enjoyable experience for cast, crew and audience alike. In order to maintain the spirit of Savoy we invite you to join our patronage scheme and become a Friend of Savoy.
